Gelato Festival World Masters Events Poland Artisan GelatoThe second Polish stage of the four-year gelato competition calendar took place in Łódź on October 29th and decreed the second group of gelato makers who will advance to the National Finals in 2025.
Gelato Festival World Masters returned to Poland for the second stop on its four-year competition calendar. Following last year's Challenge, the second national competition was held in Łódź on October 29th, with 15 Polish gelato makers participating. The Gelato Festival World Masters Challenge is organized by Gelato Festival in collaboration with Sigep – Italian Exhibition Group, and hosted by Primulator Polska, Carpigiani’s official distributor in Poland.
The jury decreed a ranking of 3 gelato makers selected to participate in the 2025 Polish Finals of Gelato Festival World Masters. Flavor, structure, creativity, and verbal and aesthetic presentation were the four parameters by which the artisanal gelatos were evaluated, promoting the choice of ingredients, the artisans' mastery in elaborating and communicating the recipe, and the overall result evaluated through sight, taste, and smell (see list of participants on the last page).
The 3 winning gelato artisans are:
1. Michał Karbowski of Lodziarnia Kanka in Płonsk with the flavor “Cherry Kawka”;
Description: Handmade Greek-style yogurt layered with cherry variegato and cocoa crumble.
2. Piotr Pastuszko of Lody u Piotrusia Pana in Wiązowna with the flavor “Coco Lime”; Description: Vegan flavor with coconut, lime and coconut milk.
3. Damian Gutowski of Piekarnia Cukiernia Grzybki in Warsaw with the flavor “Swieza Mieta "Mietowa Straciatella";
Description: Gelato with fresh mint, homemade mint oil and chocolate stracciatella.
The jury consisted of:
- Peter Bertoti: gelato Maestro and owner of Lody “Quattro Si” in Pruszków;
- Monika Soszyńska: Journalist of Przegląd Piekarski i Cukierniczy;
- Małgorzata Michalska: Founder of the International School of Culinary Art – Ashanti in Łódź;
- Izabela Borkowska: food blogger and co-founder of Jemy w Łodzi.
With the 2022-25 edition, Gelato Festival World Masters reaches its fifteenth year, debuting in Florence in 2010 as “Gelato Festival”, a local competition inspired by the first recorded gelato recipe crafted by architect Bernardo Buontalenti in 1559. Since then, the event has expanded exponentially, first across Italy, then throughout Europe and in 2017 reaching the United States, ultimately becoming a global championship knows as Gelato Festival World Masters. In the 2017-2021 edition alone, over 3,500 gelato artisans from around the world joined to competition, cementing its place as the leading international gelato event.
